A falling power line around 6 a.m. today at a major Federal Way intersection left 1,500 residents without power and darkened traffic signals at two intersections.
The power line failed and fell on a signal at the intersection of Southwest Dash Point Road and Southwest 312th Street. Traffic lights at that intersection – as well as at the intersection of 21st Avenue Southwest and Southwest Dash Point Road – were short-circuited and went dark, the City of Federal Way said.
Puget Sound Energy restored power to residents by 11 a.m., said Marwan Salloum, the city’s deputy director of public works. Traffic signals at 21st Avenue Southwest and Southwest Dash Point Road were repaired around noon, he said.
Damage was extensive to the signals at Southwest Dash Point Road and Southwest 312th Street. They may not be operating fully again until late tonight, Salloum said. Police will be directing traffic at the intersection from 4-6 p.m. today.
