An overflowing sewer has prompted the closure of South 15th Street between Court D and Pacific Avenue, according to Tacoma city officials.

Crews stopped the overflow at 10:20 a.m. today by pumping sewage around the affected area. It’s unknown when that portion of South 15th Street will reopen to traffic.

The cause of the overflow is unknown but officials said the sewer lines in that area were installed in 1906. Sewer lines in other areas of the city have been rehabilitated in the last 5-7 years.

The crap build up at city hall has finally become so large that it has overwhelmed the downtown sewer capacity.
