Bands of snow playing cold winter tune in Tacoma

The National Weather Service said Tacoma can expect bands of snow to move through all day long.

Meteorologist Carl Cerniglia said there will be a brief respite from the snow as the bands pass through the area, but the snow will increase in intensity during the day and into tonight.

Snow accumulations of about three inches are expected in the Tacoma area today with lesser amounts near the water. With overnight snow, there could be up to 6 inches in some local areas, he added.

By Thursday morning, cold air will flow in and freeze everything but at least the snow should let up, he added.

Stay tuned.
