A 48-year-old recovering heroin addict has pleaded guilty to giving her 12-year-old daughter a fatal dose of methadone.

Pierce County Superior Court Judge Rosanne Buckner sentenced Jane Elizabeth Griffith to five years in prison after she entered a guilty plea Jan. 26 to a single count of  controlled substances homicide.

Griffith admitted she gave her daughter Jessica Griffith – who also went by Jessica Wood – some methadone after the girl complained of knee pain in October. The girl later died.

Originally from Federal Way, the pair was staying temporarily in Northeast Tacoma at the time of the girl’s death.
