UPDATED: The body of a back country skier who died last week on Red Mountain was recovered and turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office early yesterday, the King County Sheriff reports..

SAR personnel and Sheriff’s deputies removed the body late Sunday evening and reached Snoqualmie Pass about 3:00 AM.

The official identification and cause of death will come from the Medical Examiner.

POSTED EARLIER: The body of a missing back-country skier was found at about 1 p.m. today near Snoqualmie Pass.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Department, the missing woman, 40, was found by an Alpine ski rescue group that was not part of the official Sheriff’s Office search and rescue operation.

Sgt. John Urquhart, a Sheriff’s department spokesman, said the Sheriff’s Office will coordinate the retrieval of the body. At this time it is not known then that will occur, he said. Weather and remaining daylight will be the determining factors.

A hike in from Snoqualmie Pass to the location where the body was found takes about four hours, Urquhart said.
