Central Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to an early morning fire south of the Summit area in a vacant rental duplex.

The call came in at 3:17 a.m. reporting possible smoke coming from the duplex at 3906 128th St. E. Arriving units discovered there also was a fire  and more units were called to the scene.

No one was living in the duplex though the structure was connected to power. Damage was estimated at $68,000 with most of the fire damage to one unit. The other unit sustained some smoke damage.

The Pierce County Fire Marshall is investigating. No one was hurt fighting the blaze.
