Puyallup police, ATF agents and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department have discovered possible home-made explosives in an area near the 2200 block of Shaw Road, on the east side of the city.
Police Captain Scott Engle said the the explosives might be improvised explosive devices, but the answer won’t be clear until ATF agents and Pierce County bomb experts can examine the materials more closely.
The area is “kind of an open field, kind of by a pump house,” Engle said, adding that the materials were discovered in the course of a criminal investigation by the ATF. So far, no individual has been detained, he said.
While there are a few homes nearby, Engle said residents have been asked to stay inside. We’ll continue to follow this incident as more details emerge.
