UPDATED WITH NEW INFORMATION

Three to four suspects – two armed with guns – robbed a man of his pickup truck early today. Tacoma police have since found the stolen red truck abandoned in a Fife motel parking lot and were in the processing of recovering it.

The 35-year-old victim flagged down Tacoma police officers shortly before 1 a.m. in the 3700 block of Portland Avenue, police reported.

He told officers that he had pulled into the parking lot of an apartment complex at East 37th and Portland Avenue and waited in his truck for a friend, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. The man was on his cell phone when his window was smashed out and three to four men pulled him out of the truck.

The suspects struck the victim several times. They took his wallet and cell phone, Fulghum said. The man managed to get up and hid in some nearby bushes.

The suspects drove off in the man’s truck and another pickup truck parked nearby, Fulghum said.

The victim suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment.
