The Tacoma Police Department’s SWAT team was called out Monday night after a man barricaded himself in the detached garage of his ex-wife’s South Tacoma home.

The woman and her boyfriend arrived at the house in the 5800 block of South Lawrence Street shortly before 6:40 p.m. Monday. They found her ex-husband inside the house, causing “severe damage,” police reported. He appeared intoxicated.

The ex-husband left the house and went into a detached garage. Officers tried to get him to come outside but he did not.

The department’s SWAT team was called out  about because of the possibility of a gun in the detached garage. SWAT team members surrounded the garage and made announcements for the man to come outside, police reported.

The man gave up without further incident just before 9:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
