Tacoma firefighters doused two minor fires this evening.

The first broke out about 8:35 p.m. in the 6600 block of North Park Way. Two dozen or so responding firefighters quickly knocked down the smoldering blaze, which started in a malfunctioning heating unit.

At 9:15 p.m., firefighters were called to a kitchen fire at a home in the 5200 block of South Mason. That fire was also put out quickly and firefighters checked the attic to ensure there were no lingering embers.

Nobody was injured in either fire.
