UPDATE 2: Troyer said rescue teams retrieved the body late this evening. Troyer said it may belong to a suicidal man who went missing from Lakewood two days ago.

UPDATE: Hikers discovered a man’s body on the banks of Chambers Creek in University Place this afternoon, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Detectives and rescue crews were assembling at the scene – off the 6500 block of Chambers Creek Road West – about 6 p.m., Troyer said. They were assessing whether they’d try to retrieve the body tonight or wait until morning.

Investigators don’t know the man’s identity or how he died, Troyer said.
