University Place police officers are searching for a man suspected of stealing items out of several cars parked outside homes on Day Island.

The department released surveillance images of the suspect today in hopes that someone recognizes him and calls police. The Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the man’s arrest and charges filed in the case.

The man stole cameras, GPS units and iPods from at least five vehicles on East Day Island Boulevard early on Oct. 29, police reported. He also tried to tamper with a video surveillance system and was captured on video instead.

Investigators say the suspect appears to be white, in his early 20s and about 5 feet 10 with a medium build. He had short, blond or light brown hair. During the thefts, he wore a dark hooded sweatshirt and a backpack.

Anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 253-5 91-5959. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

Having had my car broken into twice in the last month I hope that they catch this little waste of space. Maybe the economy has something to do with it, but property crime is just plain rampant in Tacoma this past year. These folks are just lucky to have gotten a picture of this panty waste that the police to go off of. I know the next time the thief hits my house, he will be caught on my new video surveilance system!
