Pierce County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of using a dumbbell to kill a 60-year-old woman he was living with in Tenino.

The man called 911 about 2 a.m. today to report that he’d been attacked and had killed the person on 288th Street South, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Deputies responded. They found the woman dead and the man uninjured.

Deputies investigated further and, based on preliminary information, believe the victim had been killed with a dumbbell. She also might have been run over by a van, Troyer said.  Investigators suspect the woman had been dead for some time.

“We don’t think he called right away,” Troyer said.

Troyer said the man and woman lived together in a house in Tenino. He said the two were on a drive from Tenino and ended up near Roy along the side of the road.

Preliminary information suggests the two had more than a landlord-tenant relationship, Troyer said.

“They had some type of relationship,” he said. “It’s still under investigation.”

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released any information about the victim because her family has not yet been notified.

Investigators booked the man into Pierce County Jail just before 7:30 a.m. for investigation of first-degree murder.
