A candlelight vigil will be held tonight for a 12-year-old girl who died unexpectedly earlier this week at her aunt’s Tacoma home.

The vigil for Jessica J. Griffith-McDonald begins at 7 p.m. near the playground of the Forest Grove Apartments, 31009 19th Place S.W., in Federal Way.

A memorial service for the girl has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at Grace Church, 1232 S.W. Dash Point Road, in Federal Way, according to an obituary on Edwards Memorial Center’s website.

Griffith-McDonald, who also went by Jessica Wood, and her mother had been staying with the girl’s aunt and cousin in the 4800 block of Nassau Avenue Northeast. The aunt found the girl unresponsive and not breathing Monday afternoon.

Paramedics responded and pronounced Griffith-McDonald dead. Tacoma police were investigating the girl’s death. There were reports that she might have died of an overdose. The cause and manner of Griffith-McDonald’s death, however, were pending further tests.

An account has been set up to help the girl’s family pay for funeral costs. Donations can be made to any Columbia Bank branch in the Jessica Jane Griffith-McDonald, Edwards Memorial Center reported.
