Trial begins for mom charged in young sons’ deaths after Monster Truck show

The trial began today for a Bonney Lake mother accused of killing her two young sons in a car crash on Tacoma’s Bay Street curve in January.

Prosecutors have charged Jayme Lynn Davis, 42, with two counts of vehicular homicide in deaths of 8-year-old Jared and 11-year-old Jordan Davis as they headed home from the Monster Truck Show at the Tacoma Dome.

Davis was driving south on Bay Street about 10:35 p.m. Jan. 16 when she apparently took the corner too fast and her car went over the concrete lane divider in the 2100 block, Tacoma police reported.

She drove into the oncoming lanes, struck a 1992 Lincoln Continental, spun and was broadsided by an SUV. Tacoma firefighters pulled Davis’ sons from the wrecked car and took them to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center. Jordan died a short time later; Jared died the next night.

Charging documents indicate Tacoma police officers smelled a strong odor of intoxicants on Davis after the crash. Prosecutors allege she’d been drinking during the event. Toxicology laboratory results showed that three hours after the crash, she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.07, which is under the legal limit of 0.08.

Davis told Tacoma police officers that when she changed lanes and applied her brakes, they didn’t work, according to court documents.  Traffic investigators later ruled out mechanical failure as a factor in the crash.

Attorneys delivered opening arguments this morning and prosecutors started calling witnesses.

She showed how much she cared about these children when she choose to drink, knowing that she had to drive these children home. It’s sickening that some of her supporters actually LIED and attacked those who pointed out the facts. Shows where they placed the children.

How very sad. Two young lives cut short, ripped away from those who knew and loved them. Is is truely sickening how one persons selfish act can destroy the lives of so many.
The boys are gone, and nothing will ever change that; I choose to believe they are in a better place. I pray for those who loved, and will sorely miss, these two young boys.
I pray for their families; that they will find the strength to carry on and comfort each other. Yes, I even pray for Jayme; as I can not even fathom what it must feel like when she is sober.
Sad, indeed, all around. PLEASE, folks, DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!!

Im sorry, but make it known that this type of behavior will not be tolerated, and throw the book at her, she made her choice and can now face the punishment.

She probably, really believes that she applied the breaks and they didn’t work.

Over the years, I’ve heard of people “stomping” on the clutch accidentally (no stop), the gas peddle (go faster), and missing the peddles all together (oh-no) when confronted with a “holy-$hit”, sudden, need-to-stop situation. Drinking will only make judgment and performance worse.

    RIP little ones…
