One person was found dead inside a Tacoma apartment tonight after firefighters were called to a possible fire.

The call came in at 8:10 p.m., summoning more than 20 firefighters to the Mark Twain apartments at 5928 Sixth Avenue.

“They had a report from somebody that there was someone in the unit so they were going to go in for a rescue,” said Tacoma Fire Deputy Chief Dan Crotty.

The victim was found inside. Police have been called to the scene.

We will post more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Tacoma police said the woman’s death is “suspicious” but had no immediate details.

A woman allegedly called 9-1-1 from inside the apartment but was abruptly disconnected. It’s unknown whether the woman who called 9-1-1 was alone in the apartment.

The Medical Examiner is also responding to the scene.
