Several agencies, including Sound Transit, Tacoma Rail and the Tacoma Fire Department, will be taking part in an emergency operations drill today at the Tacoma Rail Yard.

The drill is scheduled to begin this morning and end in the early afternoon, according to Sound Transit. The activity might be visible from state Route 509, the Fire Department reported.

Passenger rail service will not be affected by the exercise.

  1. It would be nice to know if this exercise includes any simulated efforts to evacuate or lockdown the NWDC in order to prevent potential loss of life to the chemical leak.

  2. Alaska47 says:

The biggest problem in that area is the trains that park across the tracks(for an hour at times).Access from 11th St. or Milwaukee is sometimes impossible.Diverting back to Hwy.99 through Fife can be a a loss of 15-20 minutes.I would hate to need an emergency response in this area.
