One woman and two cats died early today when an Auburn rambler caught fire.

The identity of the woman has not been released. Investigators were looking into the cause of the blaze, the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported.

A neighbor called 911 shortly after 3:45 a.m. to report a fire inside the 1,500-square foot home in the 1200 block of 24th Street Southeast.

Valley Regional firefighters arrived less than four minutes later. They found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the home, a press release stated.

“Firefighters entered the structure but were forced to back out when the roof ┬áthreatened to collapse due to fire involvement,” the press release stated. ” Crews then fought the fire from the outside of the structure, knocking it down so that they could safely re-enter the home.”

When crews went back inside the house, they found the woman dead in the kitchen area.
