Gig Harbor police are searching for a man who attacked a woman from behind as she jogged on Harborview Drive on Wednesday morning.

The 44-year-old woman had stopped to tie her shoe in the 3500 block of Harborview Drive about 6:50 a.m. When she stood up, a man grabbed her and held a sharp object to her neck, police reported. He told her not to move.

A vehicle approached the area a short time later, spooking the attacker. He took off on foot, police reported.

The woman had two red marks on her neck where the attacker had grabbed her. Investigators did not know the attacker’s intent since he fled before making any other demands of the victim, police said.

The attacker was described as a man, about 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 8 and 160 to 175 pounds. He wore a black fleece-type jacket and blackwatch cap. His race was not known, police reported.

Investigators were interviewing the occupant of a sailboat that was spotting leaving Gig Harbor shortly after the attack.

Police anyone with information on the incident to call Gig Harbor police detective Fred Douglas at 253-853-2423.
