A human skull was discovered on Joint Base Lewis-McChord this afternoon, officials said.

A civilian was walking in the wilderness training area just outside the East Gate about 1 p.m. when they stumbled across the skull.

“They don’t know the origin yet so they haven’t been able to determine whether or not it’s a crime scene,” said spokeswoman Catherine Caruso.

JBLM’s investigations unit will test the skull in an effort to determine the age, race and gender of the victim.
