Tacoma police have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of firing a shotgun at his neighbor’s window early today.

The man was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault.

The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of Norpoint Way N.E. A man and woman living in the home reported hearing a loud knock on the door, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

They were not expecting anyone at that hour. One of the victims looked out the front door’s peephole and saw a man with a hooded sweatshirt and mask over his face. The man was holding a gun, Fulghum said.

The victim went to a window and moved the blinds in hopes that the masked man would leave. Instead, the suspect moved down and fired a couple of rounds from a shotgun into the window, Fulghum said.

The male victim was hit by glass shards. The woman was not injured.

Tacoma police officers and a police dog responded to the scene. The police dog tracked the suspect’s scent to a garage next door to the victims’ home. Officers located the 23-year-old man inside the garage and took him into custody. They also recovered a shotgun.

Officers suspect the young man might have had a prior, indirect dispute with the victims that the victims were not aware of, Fulghum said.
