A Pierce County jury on Wednesday convicted a suspected member of the Hilltop Crips street gang of attempted first-degree murder in a shooting that left a man paralyzed.

Deondre L. Posey, 23, faces a maximum sentence of 39 years, three months in prison when sentenced Oct. 22, deputy prosecutor Phil Sorensen said today. He also was convicted of unlawfully possessing a firearm.

Prosecutors contended Posey shot a man Sept. 9, 2009, in the 1400 block of South M Street. Fellow Crips were angry with the victim because they’d heard he’d made derogatory remarks about them and may have been dealing drugs on their turf, court records state.

The man is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of his wounds.

Posey was one of 36 suspected members or associated of the Hilltop Crips swept up in February during a law-enforcement crackdown on the gang.

More than half have been convicted of various crimes. Several more are either on trial or scheduled to start trial next week.

Yea. Another one off the streets.
I have to admit that I find it hard to feel bad for the guy who was paralyzed though. If you want to live that sort of lifestyle (gangs, drug dealing), you need to be prepared to accept the concequences that it may bring.

  2. Que the Baby Mama Parade, and the proclamation from the Mayor of Deondre L. Posey Day in Tacoma !

Uh… victim? Again, we need a new word for this category of person. How about Thug-tim, or Vic-banger?

How about we use this maggot as an example of how to improve the gene pool??!!

He might just take a slap on the wrist and be out.
Maybe he was part of the crip roundup that the mayor was criticizing as racist.

I still don’t understand why we can’t outlaw gang membership if the primary reason for the gangs existence is to commit crime i.e. deal drugs, pimp minors out, rob folks etc. Can’t they just outlaw them and make it a felony to be a member or commit crimes on their behalf? Seems kinda obvious doesn’t it?
