Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 30-year-old man with first-degree robbery, alleging he held up a Lakewood grocery store clerk at gunpoint Friday.

Wade E. Barry was arraigned Monday and was being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $60,000.

Charging documents provide the following information:

A man entered the Olympic Grocery, 12928 Bridgeport Way S.W., on Friday night with what witnesses believed was a gun. The robber put the weapon to a clerk’s head and emptied the cash register.

The robber put the money in a jacket pocket and walked out. Officers were called and found Barry walking down the street.

They put a spotlight on him and he ran. Barry reached into his waistband and officers ordered him to drop the weapon. Barry tossed it into the grass.

Officers used a Taser and then handcuffed Barry. The clerk positively identified Barry as the robber.
