An arsonist is responsible for a fire that severely damaged a South Tacoma home this morning, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.

The blaze broke out in the living room just before 10 a.m. in the 5600 block of South Verde Street. The homeowners were out of town at the time.

It took 26 firefighters a half hour to knock down the flames.

An incendiary device caused the fire, which is still under investigation.
