Federal Way police said they will ramp up school zone enforcement starting Sept. 2 in an effort to keep children safe as they walk to and from school.

Officers will be closely monitoring school zones to enforce traffic laws. The minimum fine for speeding in a school zone ranges from $189 to $250 depending on the posted speed limit.

The fine cannot be waived, suspended or reduced.

There are two photo enforcement cameras in school zones in Federal Way. One is located at Twin Lakes Elementary School, SW 320th St; the other is at Saghalie Middle School, 21st Ave. SW.

Police said the school zone cameras are on while students are traveling to and from campus, during the lunch hour and when the flashing yellow lights are on.

  1. Flashers; signs; cameras; and still people through school zones!?!? Maybe a special assessment for “dumb” should be added!
