The Pierce County Medical Examiner today identified two motorcycle riders killed Sunday night in Midland as Johnathan Capps, 16, and Steven Kenward II, 21, both of Tacoma.

The two were riding a dirt bike without its lights on when it rammed into the side of  a a pickup truck on Golden Given Road at 97th Street East and were killed.

The families of the victims were at the scene this morning where a memorial is growing.

The victims were northbound on Golden Given about 9 p.m. when the accident occurred, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

They struck a white pickup, possibly a Chevrolet, that had been southbound on Golden Given and was turning east onto 97th Street East, Troyer said.

The pickup truck driver fled from the scene, Troyer said, although he or she probably would not have faced charges.

The two victims were riding a bike that was “not street-legal,” Troyer said, and they were not wearing helmets.
