King County sheriff’s detectives are searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman last week after she left a fitness center in Covington.

The attack occurred just after midnight July 28 in the 27200 block of 172nd Avenue Southeast. The 21-year-old woman was walking to her car when someone ran up behind her, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported.

A man grabbed the woman, choked her and covered her mouth. He threatened to harm her, then pulled her into a wooded area where he robbed her of the cash in her wallet and sexually assaulted her, the office reported. The woman bit him on the hand.

The attacker fled north toward Southeast 272nd Street.  A man fitting the suspect’s description was  seen getting into a red/maroon minivan parked in a nearby grocery store parking lot. It was not immediately known whether the vehicle or man were involved in the attack, the office reported.

The suspect was described as a fair-skinned, white man in his mid20s. He stood 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 9 and had a medium build and white hairy legs. He had a black nylon-type covering over his head and wore a dark, long-sleeved hooded-style sweatshirt, black basketball shorts and black tennis shoes with red-and-white trim.

Sheriff’s Office ask anyone with information on the attack to call 911 or 206-296-3311.
