The flags at all Washington state buildings will be lowered today to honor a U.S. Army soldier from Vashon Island who was killed last month in Afghanistan.

U.S. Army 1st Lt. Robert N. Bennedsen died July 18 after an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy in Afghanistan.

Gov. Chris Gregoire has ordered flags to fly at half-staff until the end of today or first thing Wednesday.
