A Federal Way police officer fired upon a van driven by a burglary suspect Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded at 1:35 p.m. to the 2100 block of SW 326th Street, according to a press release. The juvenile caller reported two adult male robbers, who were exiting the building as police arrived. One man complied with police orders to stop, and the second man fled to a waiting vehicle with a woman in the passenger seat.

The suspect drove the van at the pursuing officer, who fired multiple shots at the vehicle.

The suspect and female passenger escaped in a maroon 1998 Ford Aerostar van, which was later found abandoned in Federal Way.

There is no further description of the man and woman. It is unknown whether they were hit by gunfire.

The officer, a 24-year law enforcement veteran, was not injured and was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call 253-835-6891.
