A teenage boy was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Puyallup Sunday night.

The incident occurred at the Sounder station at 131 W Main Ave. shortly before 7 p.m., according to Puyallup police spokesman Lt. Scott Engle. The Puyallup youth, 16, was standing with a male friend on the platform, beyond the yellow striped area. As the train approached, the friend stepped back, but the victim “didn’t get far enough out of the way,” Engle said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The fatality appears to be an accident, Engle said, although the investigation is still in the early stages.
