A 25-year-old Gig Harbor man was seriously injured last weekend when someone pushed him off a cliff and he bounced off some rocks before landing in the Green River.
Justin Billups suffered serious back injuries. Two rods and several screws were inserted into his back during a surgery at Valley Medical Center, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday. He also has a broken foot and heel.
Now, the King County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone with information about the incident at Kanasket-Palmer State Park to come forward.
Billups and a friend had been at the park Sunday afternoon. About 4:15 p.m., they noticed people were jumping from a 20-to 25-foot cliff to the river below.
Billups and his friend followed a trail to the top. The friend jumped off, deputies reported.
“The victim hesitated and somebody behind him said, ‘don’t be a p***y, just jump,’” a press release states. “Then he felt two hands on his shoulders from behind and he was pushed off the cliff.”
Deputies have not yet located or identified that person.
Billups hit the rocks, then bounced into the river. Bystanders rescued him, deputies reported.
Sheriff’s detectives want to talk to anyone who saw what happen. Tipsters are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311.
A donation account has been set up to help pay for Billups’ medical bills. Contributions can be made to the Justin P. Billups Donation Fund at any KeyBank.
