One of our photographers called in this morning after a friend reported seeing several police officers and blocked off streets in the 2200 block of Pacific Avenue.

Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum reports that officers are handling a hit-and-run crash that could have been caused by a drunken driver. They have blocked off the intersection of South 24th Street and Pacific Avenue for their investigation.

The crash was reported just after 6 a.m. The suspect driver hit one vehicle. That vehicle then crashed into a parked car.

The driver of the second vehicle was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment, Fulghum said. The driver of the parked vehicle also complained of a sore hip.

The causing driver ran off. He was followed by a witness. Tacoma police officers took the man into custody a short time later, Fulghum said. The suspect appeared to have been injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
