Police officers in South King County as well as Washington State Patrol troopers will be among those participating in emphasis patrols that target leadfoot motorists starting today.
The enforcement campaign in King County, which is funded by the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission, will run through Aug. 1. It’s part of a statewide “Slow down or pay up” campaign to reduce – and eventually eliminate – serious injuries and fatalities from traffic-related crashes.
The participating agencies in King County are: Auburn, Bellevue, Black Diamond, Burien, Des Moines, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Kirkland, Maple Valley, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Normandy Park, North Bend, Pacific, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, SeaTac, Seattle, Snoqualmie and Tukwila police departments as well as the Washington State Patrol.
This makes it sound like speeding is not normally looked as a main offense. Why does there need to be funding for an “emphasis patrol”? Isn’t stopping speeders part of the every day routine of law enforcement? This is as lame the “X52″ commercials they were pushing. Extra patrols year round. If it’s going on for that long, then it’s not extra, it’s the norm. Kind of like DUI “empasis patrols”. What? Do they not normally look for drunk drivers?
@mojjonation
It’s called repackaging and rewording, it’s all about advertisement don’tcha know. I have to agree with you, it’s kinda ironic, they should be looking for speeders on a daily basis regardless.
Why don’t they have a “Doin’ 55 in the Left Lane” patrol?
Its their excuse for writing you for 3 or 4 miles an hour over. Safety first. The sad reality is John Batiste and the Washington State Patrol are heck-bent on continuing to abuse the public, furthering alienating the average citizen and law enforcement. Stupid-no time or money to protect and serve, but they have enough officers to sit on the side of the road nailing you for 3 over! Time to get rid of these poor excuses for officers and leaders
It’s all about the revenue.
I still am seeing all the idiots texting or holding a cellphone to their ear while driving. When do we get an emphasis patrol for this new law that isn’t being complied with? If it is truly about safety, this is what they should be concentrating on.
When are people going to really understand that the Patrol and law enforcement has always been about money? The fact is law enforcement could care less if anyone got into a auto accident this is proven as someone always gets a ticket when an accident does occur ( even if it is for some lame excuse as failure to keep your automobile under control if there was no damage to another car or property) And now with budget tightening they will be even under more pressure to get some tickets in peoples hands and money in their fund’s. The Patrol and others are nothing more then Puppets under the direction of higher up puppets. And yes it will always be about the MONEY safety is the excuse MONEY is the objective.
