A suspected drunken driver crashed into another vehicle late Wednesday on Ruston Way, injuring a 5-year-old child, the Tacoma Police Department reported.

The child was injured around the eye area. The injury was not considered serious, police reported.

The crash occurred just before 11:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of Ruston Way. The suspect’s vehicle hit the other vehicle, which contained two adults and two children, police reported.

The suspect, a 29-year-old woman, was believed to be intoxicated. She was injured and taken to the hospital.

what is a 5 year old doing out on waterfront at 11pm?

  2. @ sharonlee: The 5-year-old was in a car with two adults and another child. What’s wrong with that? The question should be “What is a 29-year-old woman doing driving drunk on the waterfront at any time of day?”

  3. sixpackjoe says:

@sharonlee, with all due respect, some parents like to take their kids out on a hot day during summer vacation with no school to have a nice night out with our family.

    get off your high horse.

    thank ya

Its not like the kid had school the next day and it was super nice last night and a lot of kids were down there. I was there right after it happened and the women in the car were leaving dukes and were drunk and should not have been driving!

  5. Why do people find it so amusing to go drink than get behind the wheel of a car. That woman needs to be locked up, attend alcohol class and repay for any and all damages and medical bills. She should never be allowed to get a driver’s license or be able to drive a car again.

  6. sixpackjoe says:

@lcoats, I don’t think people find it amusing, in fact I’d argue that most people that drink and drive don’t want to, but it’s ironic when you have bars, pubs, restaurants… but expect to pass 0.08 BAC, its entrapment and ironic that you can go to an establishment and drink a few, but can’t drive back home.

and cmon lcoats, never drive again? how is she going to work, pay the bills, function in life? yeah yeah its a privilege not a right to drive. bah… I miss the eighties where the cops would just give you a ride home.

Hello, drunk drivers in Tacoma. This is the deal! You can run, but you can’t hide! I’ll keep calling in whenever I see your drunken @$$ behind the wheel.

  8. Amazing how people defend drunk drivers! Anyone else have any more imput on this accident? Stacy did you talk to any witnesses an if so what did they say? I hate to read about drunk drivers especially the ones that get away with it an do it again! Any information on if the drunk driver will be charged or went to jail?

  9. @ Sharonlee, what an awful thing to say about an innocent 5yr old child. So you think because she was on the road in a vehicle with her family at 11pm its ok this person was drinking an driving hit a families car an caused injury to her face?? From your statement here I would assume your one of the people who tips back a few an thinks they can drive too right- dont drink and drive wouldnt it be ashame to spend your life in jail for something ya dont even remember! Drunk drivers beware! Theres many of us out waiting to report you drunk drivers!!
