Lakewood police are searching for a man suspected of sneaking into a woman’s apartment and  sexually assaulting her last week.

The department released a composite sketch of the suspect today.

The incident occurred the night of June 25. The woman, a mother of two, stepped out of her apartment in the 11400 block of 105th Avenue Southwest for less than a minute to empty the trash, police reported.

She returned and shut the door. She was immediately attacked by a man she didn’t know. He overpowered her and sexually assaulted her as her small children slept in another room, police reported.

The victim struggled. She was eventually able to kick the suspect and stopped the sexual assault.

The attacker ran from the apartment’s back door and the woman called 911. She was treated at a local hospital for her injuries, police reported.

The attacker was described as white, 25 years old and about 5 feet 10 with a medium build. He had red hair.

Lakewood police ask anyone with information on the attacker’s identity to call investigator Martin Knott at 253-830-5055.

Years ago when I was a young teen I saw a TV show on personal safety, and one of the scenarios they showed was a woman stepping to the curb to get her mail – at which time an assailant stepped in to her home – I have always remembered that lesson and lock my front door when I load the car, etc. You just never know who is lurking. We should be safe in our own homes, and I am NOT blaming this victim – Good for this woman to fight him off, she survived and kept her children safe, and her description may lead to his arrest.

I hope that the Tribune starts to disclose the race of wanted criminals if it is known.Sometimes I read a story over thinking that I missed something.I can`t believe it when the the desription is incomplete. This is a basic of journalism.A complete description wil help to bring these people to justice.

  3. Check her previous dating partners. It’s obviously someone who knew her or who was a friend of someone who knew her.
