A convicted sex offender was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Seattle Friday to 14 years in prison for possessing child pornography. Clyde Dale Loshbaugh, 57, plead guilty April 30. He was arrested after taking his laptop computer to shop for repair.

A Tacoma police officer shot and killed a cougar this morning after he struck the animal with his patrol car in the Eatonville area on his way to work, a spokesman said.

The cougar darted into the road at East 352nd Street and Meridian Avenue East, said Tacoma Police Officer Donald Stodola.

After his vehicle going northbound on Meridian – Highway 161 – struck and ran over the cougar around 4:30 a.m., Officer Joe Mettler stopped and reported the incident to his supervisor, Stodola said.

Tacoma police were searching for a man suspected of shooting another man this morning on a South End street in a possible robbery attempt.

The 39-year-old victim drove himself to St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood for treatment of his injuries, which were described as non-life threatening, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

Neighbors called 911 about 5:20 a.m. after hearing gunshots in the 6700 block of South Park Avenue. Officers responded to the scene but found nothing, Fulghum said.

About 10 minutes later, emergency dispatchers were called about a gunshot victim who’d driven himself to St. Clare.

Relatives and community members urged two men wanted in connection with the last week’s fatal shooting of a Tacoma city worker to turn themselves in during a press conference today outside Lisa Marie Melancon’s home.

“We’ve had our time to grieve,” said Melancon’s brother, Vincent Silva, who wore a white T-shirt with her smiling picture and a black City of Tacoma hat embroidered with Melancon’s name. “My contemplation now is on justice.”

A 25-year-old Gig Harbor man was seriously injured last weekend when someone pushed him off a cliff and he bounced off some rocks before landing in the Green River.

Justin Billups suffered serious back injuries. Two rods and several screws were inserted into his back during a surgery at Valley Medical Center, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday. He also has a broken foot and heel.

Now, the King County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone with information about the incident at Kanasket-Palmer State Park to come forward.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a drifter in the June stabbing death of a Spanaway man.

Robert Dalton Tucksen, 39, is charged with a single count of second-degree murder in the homicide of Zachariah Wright, 21.

A nationwide warrant has been issued for Tucksen’s arrest. Authorities say he has survivalist skills and may be hiding in an “underground encampment” in the forest near Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

He was last seen July 11 near Elk Plain.

Tacoma police officers arrested a 20-year-old woman Thursday evening on suspicion of shoplifting from a Tacoma pharmacy, then running over an employee’s foot as she made her getaway.

Officers also arrested a man in connection with the incident, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

The incident occurred about 3:20 p.m. Thursday at Walgreens, 8405 Pacific Ave., Tacoma police reported. The woman reportedly took several items from the store and left without paying.

The pilot who was killed Thursday afternoon when a small plane crashed after taking off from the Kapowsin Field Airport south of Graham has been identified.

Robert James McDonald, 75, was from Puyallup, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office reported this morning.

McDonald and another man were aboard a small plane Thursday. They took off from the Kapowsin airstrip.

Witnesses reported seeing the plane stall in the air, take a hard right and crash into a large pasture about 300 yards from the end of the runway about 12:45 p.m. McDonald died at the scene from his injuries.
