A 46-year-old Lakewood man is dead after a condominium fire Saturday night.

Firefighters responded around 11 p.m. to the 8600 block of Zircon Drive SW and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the window of a second-story unit.

Residents of the complex were evacuated; no one else was injured. The fire started in the deceased man’s condominium, according to Lakewood fire spokeswoman Jenny Sharp. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to determine the cause of death Monday.

It  was unknown if the condo had working smoke alarms, but the complex did not have a fire sprinkler system, Sharp said.  The fire caused $131,000 in damage to the building and $105,000 in belongings lost.

The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
