A Lakewood neighborhood was awakened early this morning by a SWAT team and what sounded like possible concussion grenades going off at a home in the 8500 block of Paine Street.
One of the neighbors, who asked that his name not be used, said the activity woke his young children who were frightened by all the noise about 6 a.m.
“I thought a transformer blew,” he said of the blasts, which he figured later night have come from concussion grenades used by the officers.
Outside his home, he saw the SWAT team and numerous unmarked vehicles at a house across the street. The SWAT team left after 30 to 40 minutes.
“I didn’t see anyone arrested,” he said. He said the level of traffic activity at the house in the past had made him suspicious about what was going on there.
Lakewood police wouldn’t comment on the activity, referring all questions to the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
A DEA spokesman in Seattle would say only that there is an ongoing investigation in the South Sound area, with warrants being served and searches under way, and that more information will be available later today or Thursday.
We will post more details of the DEA activity when it is available.
It’s called scare tactics. The police believe a fearful population is easier to control. And they’re right.

Scare tactics- I don’t think so. I think in this day and age they have to go with like that with some people just to survive. If the population has done nothing wrong they have no reason to be afraid!!

The only “scare tactics” here are the spelling and grammatical errors. Are we now outsourcing local news to people in India or elsewhere who can’t speak the language? Here’s an idea: Run spell check before posting the story.

So……what? Did they find anything? Suspicions mean that they were wrong?

They had a Search Warrant obviously they had enough. It is not called scare tactics it is called catching bad guys.

The police do not make a habit of spending time and taxpayer money or risking their lives to “scare” folks . I don’t think it was scare tactics either. It happened across the street from me once and it was totally justified after what turned out to be a long and thorough investigation and many , MANY complaints from neighbors, many visits to the address by the police and a drug buy in the house. It was needed and thank god they finally did it.

swampgirl: time to pull your head out of the sand . . . The Jews did nothing wrong either and our forces are acting just as the Nazi’s did when they started. – look at the BIG picture just just isolated stories

The DEA and Lakewood Swat team are needed in that neighborhood.

The more liberties that we give up, the closer that we move to a “POLICE STATE”. Seems like a bit of overkill here, don’t you think ? Nothing found, no one arrested. Scare tactics to be sure.

“scare tactics” the only ones that scared are the ones that need to be scared!!! Irishpunk and BC, what are you scared of?

first of all, this is a great neighborhood that DOES NOT need SWAT and DEA. Family homes, retired military. Houses kept up and good neighbors all around. Even in this situation we had no clue as there was none of the typical “drug house” activity. Very Quiet neighbor as a matter of fact. And Yes, there was a cause for SWAT and DEA to intervene . And THANK YOU for ridding our neihborhood of someone we didn’t even know was living among us! thankfully it was only for a very brief amount of time so that this poison did not ruin what is a great community.
