Tacoma police are investigating an early morning possible attempted arson in the Northeast part of the city.

Officers were called to the 3700 block of 49th Avenue Northeast just after 1 a.m. today, police reported. Witnesses reported seeing a person trying to light a small tree on fire. Nothing was ever ignited, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

“There is no evidence or indication that anything was actually lit on the fire,” he added.

The suspect fled in an unknown direction. Officers set up containment and a police dog tried to look for the suspect. The suspect was not located.

Detectives were called to the scene and the investigation was ongoing, police reported.

Investigators were looking into whether this most recent incident is connected to a series of arsons in the Northeast Tacoma neighborhood over the past four weeks.

Tacoma police and firefighters have said someone has set at least 11 suspicious fires, targeting trees and landscaping bushes, in the area of49th Avenue Northeast and 32nd Street Northeast and were set between 11 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.

An arson burned some bushes near a church in the 2700 block of 58th Avenue Northeast early Tuesday.

This string of arsons sounds very much like an arson string that happened about 10-12 years ago in South Tacoma and Lakewood. Related?

I`m not a professional profiler, but I would guess that this is a 20 something inbred unemployed loner that still lives with his parents in NE Tacoma. That is the usual type in these cases.I would payclose attention to someone that resembles this description that is unaccounted for at night.Just a guess.
