Tacoma police and firefighters were investigating whether an overnight fire in Northeast Tacoma is related to a string of suspicious fires in the area over the past three weeks.

The most recent fire was reported just before 2:30 a.m. today at 2741 58th Ave. N.E., Tacoma fire spokesman Joe Meinecke said. Firefighters doused the flames in the bushes.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters cleared the scene about 3:30 a.m.

The previous fires have been concentrated in the area of 49th Avenue Northeast and 32nd Street Northeast and between the hours of 11 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. The flames have burned trees and landscaping.

No structures have been damaged and no one has been hurt.

Tacoma police and firefighters held a community meeting about the suspicious fires last week.

Tacoma police officers have increased patrols to the 49th Avenue Northeast corridor. Patrol officers have been asked to contact all suspicious people in the area, according to a weekly report by the Tacoma police lieutenant who oversees Northeast Tacoma.

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and charges filed in the case. Reach Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.
