Westfield Southcenter mall in Tukwila was evacuated this afternoon after what proved to be a false fire alarm.

On Twitter, the mall posted a notice just before 4 p.m., “Apologies for the inconvenience. We take every alarm seriously & have to follow safety procedures.”

Just after 3:15 p.m., many shoppers started tweeting about the alarm:

xojoannamarie: “There’s a firedrill at the southcenter mall. I’m mad. I was holding a pile of clothes I was gonna buy”

KirssstenGarcia “Emergency evacuation at southcenter. There goes my movie.”

Wazzu22 “Fire drill at southcenter. This place is a mess! Traffic beyond sc’s usual!!”

stormyjd Just got to Southcenter – mass people + heavy traffic = low patience!

Workers at the security department and concierge desk referred calls from The News Tribune to mall management. A concierge desk worker said no one was available to speak to the media and mall management wouldn’t be available until Monday.

Selfish, selfish, selfish people….Lord I dislike this state….

What’s a bit of clothing, a movie, and a bit of inconvenience compared to your personal safety people??
False alarm or not, we live in a time where people get a kick out of doing harm to others…sad.
Thank God it was a false alarm and nothing actually happened!
