A 28-year-old man was killed early today when his motorcycle was going the wrong way on Interstate 705 and tried to get off at state Route 509, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The man has been identified as Efren J. Hesse of Tacoma.

The crash occurred just before 2 a.m. in Tacoma. Troopers reported the man was going southbound in the northbound lanes of I-705. He exited the wrong way onto SR 509 and lost control of his motorcycle.

The man was ejected from the motorcycle and died of his injuries, troopers reported. He had been wearing a helmet.

Troopers suspect the driver was going too fast for the conditions.
