Neighborhood cleanup today in Tacoma’s South End

Residents from five neighborhoods and the City of Tacoma will be out today, picking up trash and cleaning up two areas of the South End.

The neighborhood cleanup is for those who live from South 64th to South 96th streets, between Sheridan and McKinley avenues, and those who live from South 84th to South South 96th streets, between Interstate 5 and Sheridan Avenue, a City of Tacoma press release states.

The cleanup is from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The Pac-Yak, Spooner’s Tract, Hillsdale, Larchmont and Fern Hill neighborhoods will be participating.

City officials encourage homeowners and renters to remove their junk and beautify their yards during today’s event.

Volunteers and city employees will be manning disposal stations at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 7001 S. Park Ave., and Ehli Auctions, 9415 Pacific Ave. Participants much bring a proof of residence (a current utility bill or driver’s license will do) to dispose of their items at one of the locations.

The following items will not be accepted at the disposal sites: material from a business; cars, motorcycles, campers or boat parts; truck canopies, trailers, boats or recreational vehicles; daily household garbage; hazardous waste; riding mowers; and animal carcasses.
