Tacoma police investigate East Side woman’s death

Tacoma police are investigating the death of a 65-year-old woman who was found Wednesday in her East Side home.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the woman’s name or cause of death.

Investigators have not released any other information about the circumstances of the woman’s death or the location of her home.

The woman’s death is being investigated as a possible homicide.


Lake Stevens investigating similar Craigslist-related, home-invasion robbery

Pierce County sheriff’s detectives investigating the deadly home invasion-robbery in Edgewood are talking with Lake Stevens investigators about a similar-styled home-invasion robbery Sunday.

It is not clear whether the incident in Lake Stevens and the one Wednesday night in Edgewood are related but the agencies are working closely together, Lake Stevens police report.

Lake Stevens police released information about their incident and composite sketches of two of the suspects Thursday.

Vigil tonight for girl killed in Milton hit-and-run

Friends, family and community members are invited to a candlelight vigil tonight for a 15-year-old girl killed in a hit-and-run crash in Milton.

Kelsey Parrett was struck as she walked to a friend’s house about 9 p.m. Wednesday on 15th Avenue between Juniper and Hemlock streets. She died of her injuries early today at Madigan Army Medical Center.

The candlelight vigil begins at 8 p.m. at the scene of the crash, Faith Family Church reported.

The suspected hit-and-run driver was arrested after he returned to the scene of the crash. He, and his passenger, have been booked into Pierce

Flags lowered today for civil rights activist

Flags have been lowered today at all state facilities for a founding member of the American civil rights movement who died earlier this month.

Dorothy Height, 98, died April 20. Find more on Height here.

Flags will remain at half-staff through the end of today or first thing Friday.


UPDATED: Teenage girl killed in hit-and-run crash in Milton; two arrested

A 15-year-old girl died early today after being struck by a vehicle last night in Milton.

The crash occurred about 9 p.m., the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.

Kelsey Parrett and a friend were walking down 15th Avenue between Juniper and Hemlock streets when she was struck from behind by a GMC van.

The two were headed to a friend’s house at the time, Milton Police Chief Bill Rhoads said. He added that while there are no sidewalks on that stretch of road, the two girls were off to the side.

UPDATED: Four still sought in deadly Edgewood home-invasion robbery

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies continue to search today for three men and one woman suspected in a deadly home-invasion robbery Wednesday night in Edgewood.

No arrests have been reported. Descriptions of the four suspects have not been released. Pierce County sheriff’s detectives also are talking with Lake Stevens officers, who are investigating a home-invasion style robbery in their town Sunday.

In both cases, the victims were targeted at their homes after posting ads on Craiglist, the popular classified advertising website.

Edgewood man shot, killed in home invasion robbery

A 43-year-old man is dead after four robbers invaded his Edgewood home Wednesday night.

Deputies responded around 9:30 p.m. to a report of a residential robbery on the 3600 block of 106th Avenue Ct. E. They arrived to find an unconscious man with a gunshot wound, according to Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer. The man died at the scene.

Four people were at home at the time of the robbery–the man, his wife, and their two son, Troyer said.
