Pierce County prosecutors have charged a husband and wife in connection with the weekend shooting of his cousin.
Prosecutors charged Christopher J. Goerner, 35, with attempted first-degree murder in the Saturday incident. His wife, 32-year-old Wendy Lynn Goerner, was charged with first-degree rendering criminal assistance.
Charging documents provide the following information:
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of state Route 507 and Eighth Avenue South, not far from the Roy Y, on Saturday. (Charging documents do not indicate the time.)
They found a man lying in the street who’d been shot several times, including in the face and back. The victim told deputies he’d been shot by his cousin, Christopher Goerner, and said the cousin was staying at a motel in Lakewood. The victim was then rushed to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not known.
Deputies went to the Lakewood motel. Witnesses reported seeing Christopher Goerner putting something in the Dumpster. Deputies found several spent rounds on the top of the garbage inside the Dumpster.
Deputies found Christopher and Wendy Goerner. Both reported that they’d picked up the victim on their way to Yelm. In the car, the victim and Christopher Goerner got into an argument about Christopher Goerner’s wrecked car.
Wendy Goerner told deputies the two men were arguing so much that she pulled over and told them to get out. Both men did. A couple minutes later, Christopher Goerner got back into the car.
The wife denied seeing her husband shoot the victim but did tell deputies she’d seen a gun in the car. Christopher Goerner told deputies his cousin had stolen his gun. He did admit to throwing away several bullets at the Lakewood motel before deputies arrived.
Christopher Goerner remains in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
