A 21-year-old man was shot and another young man was booked into jail after a shooting Saturday night in Milton.

The victim was being treated at a Tacoma hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Milton police were called to an apartment complex near Birch Court and 27th Avenue about 7:45 p.m., Chief Bill Rhoads said Monday. Several callers reported that a man had been shot and the suspect had fled in a green minivan. The victim was wounded in the back and provided information to officers, Rhoads said.

A Milton officer responding to the scene spotted a green minivan on Milton Way. The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver turned out to be the alleged shooter, Rhoads said. Officers found a gun in the vehicle.

Through the investigation, officers learned the alleged shooter and another man went to the apartment complex  for a drug deal with the victim. The two had decided to rob the victim, Rhoads said.

At the shooting scene, the other suspect took off running. Officers later contacted him and the 20-year-old man has since turned himself in, Rhoads said.

The alleged shooter got into the minivan and sped off. He was later stopped by a Milton officer, Rhoads said. The 19-year-old man was booked into Pierce County Jail early Sunday on suspicion of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and altering identifying marks.
