An Olympia man died Sunday after crashing at the Pacific Raceways track in southeast King County, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported today.
The 62-year-old man had been was doing practice laps on a motorcycle on the course about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
“He came out of a straight away at high speed and into a curve, but lost control of his Honda CB950 as it began to slide on its side,” according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office. “The cycle left the roadway and collided with a tire barrier.”
The man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he later died.
The race, which was sponsored by the Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association, was canceled and the track shut down.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified and detectives launched an investigation.
Stacey, Did you put in any effort into writing about this tragety? Claud Jinks was riding a CBR900. That was on the KOMO site two days ago. Was an airfence deployed on the track at all? If you go to http://www.wmrra.com, you’d find out that it has to be rented and it is not a given that safety equipment was being used.
