Residents in south Pierce County are invited to a community meeting Tuesday night after a sharp increase in burglaries.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Baydo Chevrolet, 9201 350th St. S., in McKenna. Representatives of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office have been invited to address public safety concerns of community members, according to a press release. Pierce County Councilman Dick Muri will moderate the town hall.

Two longtime members of the rural community organized the event after seeing an increase in burglaries. Lynn Brewer reported that 26 percentĀ  of the homes on her street had been burgled during a three-month period.

“In an area where there is a relatively high use of methamphetamine and less law enforcement resources available, rural Pierce County is particularly vulnerable to being victimized,” Brewer said in the press release.

  1. buddiage says:

we need to put a stop to these burglaries. This is just crazy!!!!

  2. While sitting here at my office desk I noticed a truck pull into the end of our driveway. They just stole the kids bicycle and a little chair they leave down there to wait for the bus….

I had immediately hopped up and flipped on the porch light and stepped onto the front porch. They jumped in the truck and took off. Ripped off in under 30 seconds.

If it isn’t nailed down…consider it gone.

We aren’t far from McKenna. Will set up neighborhood watch tomorrow with our neighbors and let them know we got hit—though they didn’t get much. They come back if they think you aren’t watching though.

    We’ll be ready this time!
