Pierce County Jail officials are investigating the suspected suicide of a 48-year-old inmate.

The man was discovered in his cell Wednesday during a routine bed check, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. He had not been on a mental health hold.

The inmate had been booked into the jail March 18 by Lakewood police on suspicion of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and on two outstanding warrants.
