The Pierce County Medical Examiner has identified the woman who was struck and killed  by an Amtrak train Monday evening in Steilacoom as Ju Young Park, 19, of Tacoma.

Gus Melonas, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman, said witnesses reported several young women were near the double mainline tracks near Sunnyside Beach in Steilacoom.

Apparently a north bound train had just cleared the tracks when the woman was hit by a southbound Amtrak headed from Seattle to Eugene.

Park’s death is the second fatal railroad  accident in the state, according to the state Utilities and Transportation Commission. Last year there were 17  people killed on the state railroad tracks, according to Federal Railroad Administration statistics.

I knew Ju, we went to middle and high school together and she was a great friend who was taken to young from her family and friends.

  2. I still can’t believe it.
From riding the bus with her from home to KMS.
    Hanging out at the apartments.
Talking about nonsense of people and school.
The way she’d always see me like a puppy.
    R.I.P my dear unni…
